So we traveled to Thailand because we both needed a vacation. For me, there is a difference between going on vacation and traveling. Going on vacation is about relaxing, letting your soul unwind. To celebrate. To be able to solve problems with money. When traveling, it's more about getting to know the country and its people, staying outside of tourist hotspots, discovering more about the culture of other countries. Due to the long travel time, you have a limited budget per day and don't always want to solve problems with money.
That's roughly it. It's not always meant as a contrast - not black and white. An overseas stay always has both aspects of traveling and going on vacation. But I think you know what I mean.
So we went to Koh Lanta in Thailand to go on vacation. The past few weeks have been exhausting, with all the preparations, clearing out and emptying the apartments, and then the two moves. Which important documents and insurances do you need? Passport and bank and credit cards, comparing and taking out insurances (travel health, accident, and liability insurance). Packing emergency and medical bags. Visiting important doctors again (family doctor, dentist, and for me, also an ear, nose, and throat specialist, dermatologist, and gynecologist). Packing backpacks, getting some additional items. Then packing and unpacking the backpack multiple times because you have too much in it. Building the blog. And so on and so forth... Many other travelers start preparing a year before the trip. For Karli and me, it was all a bit spontaneous, we did it all in 4 months.
I digressed, I wanted to say that Karli and I felt the need for a vacation. To relax a bit after the past few weeks and at the same time make the entry into Asia a bit smoother. To ease into it slowly.
Koh Lanta is less touristy than most other islands. We talked to a German who has been to several other islands, and he says that Koh Lanta is much more authentic. He has been here a few years ago, and Koh Lanta is just as he remembers Thailand from back then. Karli and I are taking it easy these days. Lying on the beach, splashing in the water, eating, drinking cocktails, collecting seashells, strolling along the road.
It's relaxed here. There are many beautiful restaurants and beach bars.

We're slowly starting to become more adventurous. For example, when it comes to food. But also in terms of transportation: One day, we want to go to the southern tip of the island, which takes about an hour from our bungalow. At first, we thought about taking a taxi. That would cost around €40 per person. In contrast, renting a scooter costs around €8 per day. We decide to go with the scooter.
We were asked about our accommodation on Koh Lanta. For the first 3 nights, we stayed in a fancy Western-style cottage with air conditioning, a private bathroom, and a refrigerator. Once we got settled in, we switched to a more affordable bungalow. This one is made entirely of bamboo, the mattress is on the floor, and there's a shared bathroom. We wrap our food in a waterproof bag at night to avoid cockroach visitors. The hammock outside the door is fantastic! We really like it here, so we keep extending our stay and end up staying for another 10 nights.
