One of Singapore's most famous attractions is the steel trees called "Super Trees." They stand in the public and centrally located park called "Gardens by the Bay," which covers an area of 101 hectares, equivalent to 141 football fields.
The Super Trees are steel frameworks covered with plants and range in height from 25 to 50 meters. These Super Trees are not only visually appealing but also serve practical purposes. They collect rainwater to irrigate the garden's plants and some of them function as cooling towers for the conservatories. Solar panels installed in the "crowns" generate electricity. With the tree trunks covered in foliage, they often resemble real trees and are even used for cultivating rare plants.
The trees are the stage for the spectacular light show called "Garden Rhapsody." Twice every evening, the trees start to twinkle, creating a captivating display of changing colors. We were lucky to stumble upon this spectacle by chance. The trees are also illuminated at night even without the light show.
Another attraction in the park is the pair of conservatories, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest. The Flower Dome has the distinction of being the largest glass greenhouse in the world, recognized in the Guinness World Records.
In the Cloud Forest, the tropical montane region, found at elevations of 1,000 to 3,000 meters above sea level, is recreated. A 35-meter-tall artificial mountain made of steel is covered in typical representatives of tropical flora and fauna. Occasionally, artificial mist envelops the mountain, creating a misty atmosphere.
And currently, there is an Avatar exhibition, which was quite cool!
But beware, just because it's a greenhouse doesn't mean it's warm! In fact, the domes can be colder than outside. Don't forget to bring a jacket!
When Jack and I were in the Cloud Forest, we got drenched in the rain. As a result, we started feeling quite cold inside the glasshouse. Let's hope we didn't catch a cold!
Unfortunately, we haven't had much luck with the weather in the past few days. It's been raining constantly. The following day, we went to Decathlon to buy a new rain jacket. His current one is from his grandma and at least 30 years old. At Decathlon, we met an American couple who were also looking for new rain jackets because theirs couldn't withstand the rain of the past few days. Their jackets were also from their grandmas and quite old.
I digress: Gardens by the Bay. There are several other exciting attractions, but you can find information about them on the internet as well. The Gardens by the Bay park is generally free to enter, but the attractions inside usually have an admission fee. For example, the conservatories and the area directly under the Super Trees. Even the Skyway has an entrance fee. I found the prices to be expensive. The Cloud Forest, for instance, cost around €30 per person. What I found interesting was that there are discounted rates for Singaporeans.
